Asia Now wrapped up with presentations and a Thai dinner at Grasshopper Restaurant central Auckland on Wednesday night. It was the last of six presentations (see TRAVELinc Memo Friday 11 June for a report from the Wellington version). Presenting companies included Singapore Airlines, Wendy Wu Tours, Macao Government Tourism Office, Philippine Airlines, Contiki, Garuda, Francis Travel Marketing / Fathom Asia, and Adventure World.

Gold Coast updates Wellington agents

More than 202,000 Kiwis travelled to the Gold Coast in the 2017 calendar year and that number is predicted to rise as Virgin and Air New Zealand announce plans to add capacity. ‘We are feeling quite bullish about growth’, says Michael Thurston, Global Partnership Manager for Destination Gold Coast.

The travel trade gathered last night to celebrate the launch of Air New Zealand’s non-stop service between Auckland and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport from November this year.

The new service deepens the alliance between Air New Zealand and United Airlines. In addition to the new route announcement, United says it will extend its seasonal service between Auckland and San Francisco to year-round from April 2019.

Darragh Walshe from Tourism Ireland says, ‘It’s a revised edition of what has been in the market for a number of years.’
