Cathay opens its new doors

Wednesday, 03 June 2015 01:42

Cathay Pacific officially opened its new Parnell office on Friday 29 May, inviting the trade to join in the cutting of ribbons
and pigs.
Relocating from Auckland’s CBD to Parnell, the Cathay team shared drinks with attendees and took part in a traditional Chinese pig cutting ceremony, meant to bring luck to the new premises.
Speaking at the function, country manager Australia, Nelson Chan, says the new office represents Cathay’s new direction.
‘Cathay has traditionally been quite a conservative company, but it’s clear from this office that we are now thinking differently – this has to be the funkiest office I’ve seen in all of Cathay.
‘Last year we made some slight changes to our logo and mission statement, and moving forward we will continue to reflect this in everything we do.’

The launch of Chimu Adventures in New Zealand was held (fittingly) at Besos Latinos Restaurant in Elliot Stables Auckland last night.

The Fiesta Latina themed event was the opportunity to promote Chimu’s programmes and attributes. Director Greg Carter says the company prides itself on its local knowledge. ‘We operate on the ground – we contract our own hotels, our own drivers, our own guides etc.’

New Zealand based director Rachel Williams emphasises that Chimu operates only in South America and Antarctica.

The company highlighted four catalogues at the event in May, focusing on Antarctica, luxury, and tailor made and group tours.

JAWS hits Wellington

Thursday, 19 March 2015 22:33

A strong Wellington turnout for the Joint Airline Workshops, currently on a nationwide tour was a boost for participating airlines, said event coordinator, the Walshe Group’s Gareth Williamson.

‘Wellington always supports this event. We’re half way through our 12 shows now and it’s all been really positive. I think the key is having two or three new presenters each year and that keeps it fresh, plus the regular presenters always have something new to tell.’

The roadshow was heading from Wellington to Palmerston North and New Plymouth, then to Hamilton and Tauranga. Williamson urged travel agents in those regions to come along and update themselves on airline news. There are also lots of great travel prizes up for grabs, which will be drawn after the final event, he says.

Up to 100 travel agents attended the Wellington event, held at the Amora Hotel Wellington on Tuesday 17th March.

Action from JAWS AKL

Thursday, 12 March 2015 00:02

Half way into a 12 centre round country roadshow, JAWS Plus 2015 is on track to be the biggest to date.

Gareth Williamson, JAWS secretary says the South Island circuit last week had increased attendance on last year, with all brands well represented. ‘We even had ‘go shows’ and it was great to see so many home based brokers attend. To have them come to the shows is a win all round.’

Auckland is on the JAWS schedule every two years, and Wednesday night's turn out saw around 90 agents meet with 14 airlines and tourism offices in eight-minute group sessions.

There are some major prizes up for grabs for all agents who attend JAWS, including two return tickets to Vila on Air Vanuatu; two return economy class tickets on Air France to Europe; tickets on CI from AKL to SYD or BNE or CHC to SYD, plus hotel stays, travel vouchers and more flights. JAWS Plus continues to the Central North Island and registrations are still open. Email Gareth.Williamson@walshegroup.com
