Aussie push to lure Kiwis

A new campaign just launched by Tourism Australia aims to lure young New Zealanders across the ditch by showcasing the adventures and experiences they can have while working and travelling in Australia. The young Kiwis are being urged to take a working holiday and gain employment in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and hospitality.
Australia's Tourism Minister, Simon Birningham, says with travel from across the Tasman back in play this is an opportunity to entice New Zealanders to take a longer stay in Australia and

experience jobs within sectors that usually rely on over 300,000 working holiday makers every year.

'This campaign aims to encourage young Kiwis to take a working holiday in Australia this summer, whcih will not only provide a tourism boost but also help fill some of the current workforce strategies that some businesses are facing, particularly those across regional areas in our popular tourism destinations.

'We want young New Zealanders to cross the ditch, have a cracking time exploring our incredible country, earn some cash, spend that cash, and support our farmers or tourism operators at the same time.'

In a background statement sent to TRAVELinc Memo it was stated that the easing of Australia's state border restrictions in recent weeks is a significant step towards recover for Australia's tourism industry and is important in supporting the Safe Travel Zone arrangement between Australia and New Zealand.

TRAVELinc Memo notes at the time of going to press that the New Zealand Government is not yet reciprocating in terms of quarantine-free travel from Australia and even seasonal workers who travel from Covid-free Pacific next year are, at the moment, being required to quarantine for 14 days.
