YOU Cruise: more members

First Travel Group expects its YOU Cruise brand, launched this week, to expand steadily and eventually be joined by all existing 35 YOU Travel retail members.
YOU Cruise currently encompasses 27 stores: Bon Voyage Cruise & Travel, Capital Travel, Stars Travel & YOU Travel New Plymouth, and YOU Travel stores in Bethlehem, Birkenhead, Fielding, Ferrymead, Helensville, Katikati, Mairangi Bay, Manly, Manukau, Mount Manganui, Napier, New Lynn, Newmarket, Orewa, Southern (Invercargill), Takapuna, Taupo, Tauranga, Waiheke, Westgate, Whangarei, Whitianga, CBD – Auckland, and Wellington.

‘We have several (other) stores who are considering the YOU Cruise option at present and we are working through the process with them,’ says John Willson, general manager retail, First Travel Group (FTG). ‘We would also expect to see all the other YOU Travel members join too once we have had a few months of marketing behind us.
‘The YOU Cruise brand is to compliment what we already do with YOU Travel and also with other FTG members who have their own retail brands, with a very strong emphasis on our knowledge in cruise.’
He says the expectations of YOU Cruise members is that they do all of the cruise training as per CLIA and embrace cruise as a huge part of their business – not just as a selling agents, but as an expert.
Trish Ryder, from YOU Travel Manly, says selling cruise used to be simple. ‘There were fewer ships, itineraries, and fare structures and it was fairly straight forward. Today the process is much more complex.
‘It is the largest growing segment within the travel industry worldwide, with well over 50 cruise companies and many options within these brands.’
Willson says YOU Cruise is lead by the members, in an entrepreneurial approach. ‘We have a strategy group as well as a product steering group. These teams work closely with our marketing and creative people to deliver the product to our customers.’
