AQUATIS opens in Switzerland

Switzerland Tourism has announced the opening of AQUATIS, the largest freshwater aquarium-vivarium in Europe.
Located on the shores of Lake Geneva (the largest body of freshwater in Western Europe), in the historical town of Lausanne, the project was 15 years in the making. Spread over two levels and with 3,500sqm dedicated to

the public, the spaceholds two million litres of freshwater; is home to 20 different ecosystems, 300 plant species; 10,000 fish from Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America; 100 reptiles and amphibians; and features 46 aquariums/vivariums/terrariums.

The country's first cultural destination dedicated to ecosystems and sustainable development, AQUATIS presents a journey through the planet's most fascinating freshwater environments, where visitors are taken on an immersive and interactive voyage of discovery through time and across continents.
Featuring a multitude of experiences and scenography, AQUATIS aims to not only raise awareness of the relatively unknown freshwater environment, but also the effects of globalisation as well as societal issues and challenges that the world faces today.
