The visit comes on the back of strong arrival figures last year – the 41,070 overnight stays in 2017 has set a new record high for Kiwis travelling to Switzerland.
Exploring the country with the Swiss Travel Pass also proved increasingly popular, with the Swiss Travel System reporting a 21% hike in sales from the region.
In terms of destinations, Kiwis have shown a strong preference towards the mountains and major cities with 8.1% and 9.7% year-on-year increase in overnight stays respectively.
Mark Wettstein, director of Switzerland Tourism AU & NZ, says while the tourism board’s campaigns over the last couple of years have been very successful in engaging the interests of New Zealand travellers, it is also thanks to the strong and ongoing support from the local trade partners and travel agents that any growth is possible.
‘We work closely with our trade partners large and boutique; and it is indeed very exciting to be sharing this success with them, while also looking forward to rolling out our 2018 campaign with their partnership. ‘Our target demographics are largely outdoor enthusiasts, adventure tourers and nature lovers, and while the 2017 theme of ‘Nature Wants You Back’ will continue this year, our new summer campaign will focus on road cycling and biking.’
Switzerland Tourism’s 2018 summer campaign launches soon. Arrival forecasts for the year is already looking positive with advanced bookings and Swiss Travel Pass sales.
