TAANZ cuts costs, awards

The Travel Agents’ Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) has cancelled this year’s National Travel Industry Awards.

The announcement came in a list of initiatives sent to members this morning. Chief executive officer Andrew Olsen says the TAANZ board and management have taken a number of steps to preserve cash and resources, without unnecessarily compromising service delivery. Among other things, director fees have been suspended indefinitely, the CEO salary has been temporarily reduced through to June, and the vacant membership services role will not be filled at this stage.

The Wellington office space will be relinquished as well. Olsen says TAANZ remains proactively engaged with the government and MBIE identifying particular issues that the travel industry faces and is liaising locally with airlines and IATA as required. The association has been determining an industry position on cancellation fees and chargeback risk.
