Mt Hutt's open day

Mt Hutt's open day

Mt Hutt is holding its open day this year on Saturday 3 March, and with Cyclone Gita’s help there is around 50cm of snow.

‘I know some of our die-hard skiers and riders will be very excited, but honestly, we’re not ready for winter just yet,’ says Mt Hutt Ski area manager James McKenzie.

‘Our Discover Mt Hutt Open Day is all about celebrating our spectacular summer landscape. It’s a magnificent place in the summer anyway, but now with snow blanketing the summit it really is a breath-taking sight,’ he says.

The event kicks off at 9am, with the Summit Six chairlift running from 10am–4pm.

The cost is $20 per person for walkers, $30 for bikers (all admission includes free travel on the chairlift all day) and children 10 and under are free, including those with bikes.

The event is hosted in conjunction with the Methven Lions, and all funds from the day will be distributed to local community groups and charity organisations.

New for this year is a behind-the-scenes tour of the ski area, with scenic helicopter flights at $79 per person. Any queries on the day phone 03 308 5074.
