Tiki… the Contiki chick released back into the wild Tiki… the Contiki chick released back into the wild

Contiki kiwis

As part of a partnership with Ngai Tahu Tourism, all Contiki NZ trips that pass through Rotorua visit Rainbow Springs’ Kiwi Encounter as a No Regrets Inclusion.

Guests learn about the programme Rainbow Springs runs incubating and hatching brown kiwi eggs from around the North Island. In partnership with the Treadright Foundation, Contiki also purchased an incubator and weighing scales for the facility.

Contiki names two birds hatched in the facility every year, and in 2018 they were named Tiki and Herenga. Tiki was the first of Contiki’s chicks to be released back into the wild this year. She was released to Project Kiwi in the Coromandel with a healthy weight of 1217g. See more here.
