NZ Isolation Accommodation was launched in response to a growing need for welcoming, self-isolation accommodation throughout the country. It was launched by Auckland-based tourism marketing company Tomahawk to support people in need as well as the struggling tourism industry. NZ Isolation Accommodation is a free service, with all bookings made directly between the guest and the accommodation provider and Tomahawk taking no listing or commission fees. Tomahawk general manager, Carmen White says there are many people currently looking for comfortable, temporary accommodation where they can safely self-isolate, but there is confusion about how to find suitable accommodation able to accept them.
‘The website will ensure essential service workers like medical professionals and grocery staff and those who have received positive test results and wish to distance themselves from loved ones, or those at high risk of serious health complications as a result of contracting Covid-19, are able to connect with available accommodation providers,’ says White. All accommodation options listed on the website have the express permission to be utilised by people requiring Covid-19 isolation accommodation. White says many of Tomohawk’s clients are accommodation providers who are experiencing a severe downturn in business. ‘We have a large group of accommodation providers with available rooms, cabins and houses across the country willing to open their doors to at risk groups.’ White believes the need for isolation accommodation may remain high for some time. ‘As the lockdown period ends and we start to see movement again within the country, we still expect a need for isolation accommodation – and once our borders reopen, quarantine may even become the new norm.’ www.isolationaccommodation.co.nz
