Connecting with trade key priority for new hotel management group

The opening of a hotel in Queenstown next month, followed by a Newmarket property next year, as well as the appointment of hospitality stalwart Richard Crouch as sales and marketing director, are among the developments heralding the arrival of Safari Hotels in New Zealand.

Crouch says he regards touching base with travel management companies (TMCs) and the New Zealand travel trade as a priority. This includes inbouders who may be currently focusing in the

domestic market as a priority.

The new entity is owned by Safari Group, which has built and developed a number of Ramadas in New Zealand. Safari Hotels now manages Ramada Queenstown Central and Ramada Christchurch.

Next out of the blocks for the group is LQ Queenstown set for an 11 December launch. The hotel’s 91 rooms are a combination of self-contained apartments and hotel-style rooms. The hotel has views of the Remarkables mountain range, Kawarau River to the south and Coronet Peak to the north. Experienced Queenstown hoteliers Pauline and Greg Ewen are the general managers of LQ Queenstown and will oversee the day to day operation of the hotel, in addition to their current management of Ramada Queenstown Central. Ramada Newmarket will open in Gillies Ave in 2021.

Meantime Richard Crouch started with the company this month and is now touching base with travel management companies (TMCs) and other in the trade. He has a 25 year background in hospitality and has spent the last eight years in Queenstown – including a recent role as general manager of the Kamana House. Contact richard@safarihotels.co.nz
