Japan juggernaut rolls on for trade Featured

There was a record turnout of agents at Pullman Auckland this week when the ‘biggest ever’ contingent of suppliers from Japan, 16, co-hosted an event with Air New Zealand.

In Auckland for the second time in seven months, Japan is capitalising on the publicity generated from hosting Rugby World Cup 2019 and next year’s Olympics in Tokyo. The country will then continue its run with major events with the 2021 World Masters Games to be held in Kansai, and in 2025 Osaka will host the World Expo.

More than double the number of agents were at Wednesday’s event (170) compared to May (80), and it was the first time the destination had a local representative in attendance. Dylan Joffe, in the job for five months, worked with regional tourism organisations in Japan for five years before a two-year stint with Flight Centre prior to his current role.
