In Botswana, two new under canvas camps opened this year, offering a personal and exclusive wilderness experience with three tents at each camp, but at a lower price point than the lodges. ‘Guests at Nxabega and Sandibe Under Canvas camps enjoy greater connection with the wilderness, the social hub being around the outdoor firepit in the boma. The game drive experience is the same as at the lodges, but you stay in a tent, albeit a spacious tented suite on a permanent platform, complete with ensuite bathroom,’ says Clegg.
Also in Botswana, Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp is undergoing refurbishment, and is due to re-open in May 2027.
In South Africa, Phinda Zuka in Phinda Private Game Reserve reopened in December 2025 with improvements including a new family suite. Phinda Vlei is set to reopen in July this year, with suites double their previous size.
In Kenya, Kichwa Tembo has undergone a soft refurbishment, and the recently opened Suyian Lodge in Laikipia has already won accolades. Once a cattle ranch, the Suyian Conservancy is set to become a wildlife haven to endangered species including the elusive black leopard and African wild dogs.
In Tanzania, the new Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is expected to open late 2027.
