Kiwi co expands into Africa

Queenstown-based adventure company, Active Adventures is tracking ahead of budgeted bookings for the new addition to its portfolio – Africa.

Itineraries include Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and South Africa. ‘When we release a new destination we always have a sense of confidence about how it will go as there’s a lot of R&D that goes in behind the scenes,’ says CEO Wendy van Lieshout. ‘By the time we’re ready to launch we know that our loyal travellers are excited and we know that the destination is trending well.’

Walking safaris are a key feature of the wildlife experiences where guests learn to track and spot game. The multi-activity itineraries that the company is known for also feature. On the Okavango Delta Safari in Botswana, for example, guests take a guided mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) cruise, kayak the delta, spot wildlife by jeep and on foot, and fly in and out of camps. Its two Tanzanian trips – the 10-day Kilimanjaro Trek and six-day Serengeti Safari – can be booked consecutively with the safari an opportunity to unwind after the strenuous mountain trek. In South Africa, the wildlife component is at private game parks in and around Kruger National Park before the tour heads to Cape Town and the explores the Franschhoek winelands by bicycle.
