SQ notes travel rebound

Singapore Airlines is noticing a marked pick of business from New Zealand and is looking forward to providing more opportunities for agents to sell, says George Robertson, general manager New Zealand with Singapore Airlines.

He says that customer confidence is strong to the extent that the rebound in Kiwi travel has surprised some people in the airline’s head office.

‘It has been a collaborative effort with the trade. We have put out tactical promotions to entice customers to get back out there and agents have been actively supportive of what we do.’

Robertson notes that SQ has been steadily ‘ramping up’ operations with daily AKL to SIN flights and four times a week CHC to SIN, moving to daily from Christchurch and (with partner Air New Zealand) double daily from Auckland.

He says the team in Auckland is in good shape to handle the uptick in business but, like most companies, will be looking for extra staff to boost resources.
