Christchurch Airport chief executive Justin Watson says the connection from Guangzhou to Christchurch was first launched in 2015, and over the following four years grew from a summer seasonal service to a daily year-round link .

Watson says the impact of the service re-starting will extend far beyond the tourism industry.
