China Southern to return to CHC

Direct flights between Christchurch and Guangzhou will resume later this year.

The president of China Southern Airlines announced the airline’s return this week and says the service that was paused during the pandemic will re-start on 10 November with three flights a week.

Christchurch Airport chief executive Justin Watson says the connection from Guangzhou to Christchurch was first launched in 2015, and over the following four years grew from a summer seasonal service to a daily year-round link .

Watson says the impact of the service re-starting will extend far beyond the tourism industry.

‘Not only is the service popular with visitors, but it’s key for education, business and high value airfreight such as our live lobster and fresh seafoods.’
