Wallace to QF
Ex Air New Zealander Cam Wallace will join Qantas as CEO of Qantas International and Freight from 1 July 2023. This will include growing Qantas International’s capacity to 100% of pre-Covid levels and beyond, as well as guiding preparations for Project Sunrise through to the first flight in late 2025.
The announcement was made yesterday as part of changes to the carrier’s group management committee.
Cam Wallace to leave Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand’s chief commercial and customer officer Cam Wallace has resigned from the airline.
He will step away from Air New Zealand on 30 September and will provide consultancy support to CEO Greg Foran until the end of 2020. Wallace has been with Air New Zealand for 19 years and has held a variety of senior and executive roles.
NZ to be simpler to deal with
Air New Zealand will be ‘easier and simpler’ for trade to deal with as it works towards stimulating the market, first domestically and then beyond these shores, the airline’s chief revenue officer Cam Wallace said in a webinar this week.
‘Contracts will be user friendly and easier to understand,’ he says.
Answers from Air NZ in webinar
Air New Zealand is encouraged by the momentum that a 'trans Tasman bubble' has generated in recent weeks and feels this might become a reality in the next three to six months, according to the airline's chief revenue officer Cam Wallace. 'Even if it is incremental, state by state, we'd take that.'
In a trade webinar which has just concluded, Wallace said the opening up of the Pacific Islands is likely to take longer, because of the medical infrastructure in those destinations.
Clarity needed on border and travel restrictions says NZ's Wallace
Air New Zealand will need clarity around border and travel restrictions before it makes any statement on resumption of services, those who listened into the Kickstarting the Tourism Sector Together webinar heard on Wednesday.
‘When we get that clarity, even if it’s not what we want to hear, we will be able to start making decisions,’ says Cam Wallace, chief revenue officer with Air New Zealand.
India in sights, ‘not imminent’
Despite India being a hot topic of discussion at this week’s TRENZ 2019, New Zealand’s major annual tourism showcase, direct flights between the two countries still appear to be some way off.
Adrian Littlewood, chief executive of Auckland International Airport, says the company has a team working with the outbound industry in India but direct flights into the airport are ‘not imminent’.
QF-NZ arrangement
There is some confusion around the new relationship between Air New Zealand and Qantas that follows the cessation of the current NZ-VA partnership, says Cam Wallace, chief revenue officer with Air New Zealand.
