Kaori Ishii, who represented the company at the recent International Media Marketplace (IMM) in Sydney says Tobu railway provides a luxury and scenic way to reach Nikko. Once there, travellers find a choice of luxury and traditional hotels (including those run by Tobu), plus heritage sites such as the Japanese Abbe Kanmangafuchi – famous for its line of statues – and modern attractions like Toky Skytree.
Edo Wonderland, a museum park showcasing historical Japan and allowing visitors to dress for the period, is also popular.
‘We are keen to promote what people can do in Nikko. There are certainly less crowds than Tokyo and some of the better known cultural areas.
‘If people want tyo combine the luxury train trip with a hotel, the Ritz Carlton Nikko is ideal, or they can look at the Niko Kanaya Hotel for something in more a Japanese style. It is easy for agents to package something up to suit the client.’
