WJ’s Fables of the Silk Road

World Journeys has launched its latest small group hosted journey (maximum 18 guests), exploring the five ‘Stans’ of Central Asia – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. 

The 29-day journey departs Auckland or Chistchurch 17 September 2024, flying via Dubai to Almaty in Kazakhstan. Highlights here include a traditional falconry experience, Kaindy Lake, and tasting local specialties made by locals in a yurt. In Uzbekistan, the bazaars and Khan-Atlas silks of Fergana and ancient Kokand are among the features. Tajikistan offers the oriental bazaar of Payshanba and the springs and waterfalls of Iskanderkul Lake. 

The oasis city of Mary and the World Heritage site of Merv in Turkmenistan are also in the itinerary as are the medieval town of Khiva and the 2,000 year-old capital of Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
