Italian trains add initiatives

Trenitalia and the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT) have new initiatives to enhance inter-city train travel and help promote some of the country’s key tourist attractions and destinations.

Intercity trains have added more than 75 new stops for the 2022 summer season. The Ligurian Riviera, Versilia, Sicily and the Adriatic Coast are among the most sought-after destinations across the train network.

Intercity trains now feature eight artistic ‘postcards’ showcasing a range of scenic natural landscapes accessible by train, as well as a dedicated 24-seat carriage for families, featuring a stroller area, spacious bathroom with nursery area, themed tables with game for toddlers, vending machine, and stand-up area. A child aged 15 and under can travel free with a paying adult.

Intercity trains now have extra charging ports, as well as more than 600 bicycle spaces per day to meet growing demand from locals and tourists.

‘Italy is currently enjoying a renaissance as a tourist destination, and these additions will further integrate train travel and tourism to help encourage visitors to experience our incredible tourist destinations in a more sustainable, family-friendly way,’ says Italian National Tourism Board manager for Australia and New Zealand, Emanuele Attanasio.
