Spain promotes specialist programme, plus prizes as Kiwis visit in big numbers

The Spain Tourism Board is currently giving New Zealand travel agents the chance to win a Spanish-themed prize each quarter.

Agents need to register themselves on the Spain Specialist Program website and start one of the four learning modules. They will then be in the running to win a range of prizes, from Spanish wines to gift cards for mouth-watering Spanish restaurants across the country. The first quarter prize winner will be announced on 31 August 2023.

The Spain Specialist Program is a self-paced online learning tool that allows travel agents to build their expertise in the destination and create personlised itineraries, all designed to help them sell higher-value holidays.

With four different learning modules to choose from, travel agents can select the module that best suits them, based on their pre-existing knowledge of Spain and/or their areas of interest.

As registered Spain Specialists, travel agents gain exclusive access to join famil trips, as well as receive invites to future Spain events in New Zealand.

Andrew Cavallaro, Australia and New Zealand market representative for Spain Tourism Board, says more New Zealanders visited Spain last year (69,000 in 2022), than pre-Covid (66,000 in 2019).

‘Not only are New Zealand visitor numbers increasing post the pandemic, but Kiwis are also now staying longer in Spain, with the majority visiting for four to seven nights or more (in 2022),’ Cavallaro adds.

‘Whilst it’s already a popular destination for Kiwi and Aussie travellers, we see much more potential and a need to educate on the full breadth of year-round experiences the country has to offer.”

The Spain Tourism Board promotes Spain as a both a leisure and business destination in the markets of South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It works in collaboration with the private sector and the autonomous regions in Spain.
