Travel trends for 2022

The annual global Amadeus Travel Trends research points to active eco-tourism and ‘friendcations’ plus the digital transformation of business travel, as things to watch for as travel comes back on the agenda.

At the same time, interesting new search and flight locations are emerging - from flight searches up by one third to Tanzania, to flights doubling to cities close to Machu Picchu.

Amadeus says travellers are dreaming of going to new destinations, inspired by their viewing habits.

The Amadeus 2022 Travel Trends also identify that 2022 will be the year of the grand reunion for gatherings (friendcations) both large and small.

Today’s travellers are more interested in taking action in terms of sustainable travel, with a growing demand for trips supporting diverse global communities.

At the same time, changes are on the way for the business sector, with technology ushering in expense-free mobile travel payments. There is also a nod to being futuristic and fast.

‘The return of supersonic flights and hyperloop travel links, leveraging vacuum technology, will make lightning quick travel accessible to an increasing number of people,’ a report on the research says.

The annual travel trends were identified by Amadeus’ team of travel data technologists.
