(Simon) Bridges and rooftops

Auckland Business Chamber CEO Simon Bridges says that despite some challenges he is feeling optimistic about the immediate future of the city.

Speaking at a Skal Auckland lunch at the Rydges Auckland’s rooftop yesterday, he notes that finding staff and staying profitable amidst surging inflation remained as major issues.

‘But personally, without trying to let the Government off the hook, I am pretty optimistic.’

Bridges says the improved connectivity between Auckland and the US give reason for confidence. ‘The Yanks are coming and they are big spenders.’

He says Auckland does need a stronger events strategy and ideally it would be led by the private sector. ‘That way it will be more robust and it will actually be about bed nights.’
