Outbound and inbound back but Viva set on keeping domestic in mix

Domestic travel with an eye to exceptional experiences for Kiwis will remain a focus for Viva Expeditions, even as its pre-pandemic business starts to gain momentum again, says founder Rachel Williams.

With offices here and in South America, Viva is back promoting two-way travel between the destinations. However, successful forays into the local market have shown Williams the worth of having domestic product with a difference on offer.

‘We have had success around the Southern Lights by Flight and really anything to do with the Aurora, plus around Stewart Island.

‘For the next six months to a year we need to keep the cashflow rolling. So it is important to keep domestic as part of the mix for short term revenue and getting people to do something now.’

Williams attended last week’s Regional Tourism New Zealand (RTNZ) update with an eye out for both international and domestic visitor offerings.

‘We are heavily focused now on re-igniting Latin America and the Antarctic and we are receiving support from the trade with that. But we also now have a dedicated New Zealand department and we are working on growth in that area.’
