Josh Loughnan, founder of Weka Travel says traditional group tours – often designed around celebrity hosts, rapid sightseeing, and tightly packed itineraries – can leave travellers feeling rushed, detached, or overwhelmed.
‘Our guests don’t want to rush through hotspots,’ says Loughnan. ‘They want experiences that feel alive, and have time to connect with the people and landscapes they’ve travelled so far to meet.’
Launching in April 2026, Weka’s first small group journey is an opportunity to explore a side of Bali few travellers experience – food traditions, organic farms, forest-to-table cooking, wellness rituals, and community, Loughlan says.
Across seven days, guests will stay at two retreats. Fivelements Retreat is a riverside haven devoted to plant-based cuisine, healing rituals, yoga and rest; while Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape is suspended above the highlands with open-air villas.
Highlights include foraging with Balinese chefs, hands-on cooking experiences using local ingredients, botanical mixology workshops, wellness practices and yoga, encounters with artisans and local communities, and more.
