The Travel Agents’ Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) has appointed Greg Hamilton as chief executive officer.

Hamilton brings to the organisation 35 years of experience in leadership positions across the travel, not-for profit, membership and political sectors, and comes to his new role having spent the past 11 years as general manager and general secretary of the National Party.

TAANZ president, Brent Thomas, says Hamilton’s extensive prior experience within the travel industry will provide a solid foundation for the responsibilities and challenges he will face in his new role.

Hamilton’s career in the travel industry began as a consultant, before becoming a sales representative with wholesaler Passport Holidays, having returned to New Zealand with four years of extensive overseas travel under his belt.

He then started his own travel business that grew over 10 years to become a leading New Zealand business travel, corporate events and incentive company, before merging with an Australian partner and listing on the Australian Stock Exchange. The company was ultimately bought by Flight Centre Limited (FLT), with Hamilton taking on roles within the new organisation that included New Zealand general manager of FCM Travel Solutions, sales and marketing manager of FLT’s New Zealand corporate divisions, and FCM Travel Solutions’ global marketing manager.
